Bantam Division

Brent Barker - Bantam Director
Bantam@VernonMinorBaseball.com

This year we had three teams participating in the Bantam division. They played teams from Kelowna, Rutland, Salmon Arm, Penticton and Westside. Each of the teams participated in a tournament during the season adn all had some measure of success in these tournaments.

Unfortunately there was not time left at the end of the year for a wind-up tournament. I would like to thank the three coaches, Jim Mottus, Jim Keyes and Robb Glass for all of their effort and for the coaching staff that assisted them each week.

We also were able to put a Bantma A summer team togethr this year under the direction of Jim Keyes and Jim Mottus. They were able to secure a spot in the Provincial tournament in Rutland. Though they weren't victorious, the experience each of them had in reaching this tournament makes us proud of their effort and the commitment of the players, coaches and parents. With a number of players graduating to Midget this next year, we need a volunteer to take on the Bantam coordinator role and coaches to step up to the plate to assist in this division. Thanks also to the umpires who worked this division and the parents.

Welcome to the 2008 season and an exciting year for those returning as well as those coming up from Pee Wee. Bantam is the first year players can wear metal cleats, an exciting change for those moving up from Pee Wee. Last year we had two teams who played games with Kamloops, Kelowna, Summerland, Westside and Rutland. We look forward to playing with these same teams again this year. We need coaches and volunteers to assist us in making our season a success. Please contact me if you can assist.

BANTAM : The base paths are 80 feet and the distance between the pitching rubber and home plate is 54 feet. The pitching mound is raised by a gradual slope to a height of 8 inches above the base paths. The recommended dimensions for the outfield fence are 260 to 280 feet. Pitchers may pitch a maximum of 7 innings in a calendar day and 14 innings in a calendar week. Shoes with metal cleats are permitted in the Bantam Division. A regulation game is 7 innings and Rule 14 applies for early termination. Other guidelines for play in the Bantam Division are found in Rule 22
